Where to Eat & What to See in Guadalupe

By Jennifer Best

Guadalupe:
A True West Town of Restaurants, Friendly Faces
Far Western Tavern, 899 Guadalupe St. - Specializes in hearty beef meals that don't scrimp on serving size. A longtime Central Coast landmark. Don't forget to check out the cowhide doors.

Margie and Joe's Café, 887 Guadalupe St. - coffee, cappuccino, sandwiches, ice cream.

Sinaloa Restaurant, 865 Guadalupe St. - Homestyle Mexican food.

King Falafel, 855 Guadalupe St. - Burgers, falafel, soda and good conversation.

La Chiquita Market, 843 Guadalupe St. - Grocery store caters to south of the border cooking. Pick up bulk specialty items, like dried Puya, Chipotle, Arbol and Guajillo chiles, piloncillo, tamarind and flour for tamales and tortillas.

La Simpatia, 827 Guadalupe St. - Homestyle Mexican food and burgers. Another long-time Central Coast landmark.

Romo's Market, 727 Guadalupe St. - Market includes a bakery and taqueria with especially tasty tacos. Share the store's table with other diners or head to a local park with your feast.

Nardo's, 866 Guadalupe St. - Made-from-scratch, slow cooked Mexican food. If you're in a hurry, don't stop in. If you've got some time to relax and a hankering for fantastic chili relleno, this is your place.

Other stops:
Guadalupe Dunes Center, 1055 Guadalupe St. - open Fri, Sat & Sun from noon until 4:00 pm

Monchi's New Fashions, 875 Guadalupe St. - Clothes, cookware and more packed tightly into this out-of-the-way shop. Specializing in Western wear and clothing for toddlers and infants.

Royal Theater, Guadalupe St. - A vintage movie theater with picturesque marquee. Has been used alternately for live theater and film.
