Accommodations

We have five different room types at the Inn, designed for different types of guests. They are all unique and special, but are as diverse as our guests!

Families:

Our Courtyard rooms are perfect for small families or extended stays. They have two queen beds and a small kitchen, with eating area, lots closet space, but they are not recommended as romantic getaway rooms. Our large one bedroom apartments are perfect for larger families or longer stays. They include a full kitchen and a seperate bedroom for mom and dad. Two TVs/two VCRs are also key features. Bedding usually is a queen bed in private bedroom and sofa beds in the living room. There are variations as #304 has two full beds in living room instead of sofa beds and #203 doesn't have a kitchen but does have a ocean view from master bedroom. Again, they sleep 6 and are great for families but not preferred for romanatic weekends .

Oceanfront Suites:

These are large studio suites with a living area they do not have kitchens (okay, one does - #209) They were designed as romanatic getaways with queen canopy beds. They have large oceanfront decks with chaise lounges and a couple chairs. Views are unbelieveable. There are variations on layouts but most have living area next to ocean. There are two with beds on ocean #205, and #305 the trade is you get to see ocean from you're bed, but you lose some of use of living area and maybe little privacy. An advantage is that they are only ones that have day beds for a small child, others have couches that do not fold out. We have fans of both, but these rooms are not ideal for families.

Courtyard Spas:

Very romanatic rooms with lots of toys. Giant jacuzzi tubs big enough for two or three close friends (four or more we want pictures ;) and fireplace. Most also have day beds that are great to curl up and take a nap. Variations: #301 is a very fun king bed with cabanna above bed, fireplace between bed and jacuzzi tub (partial ocean view from tub), skylights above shower and tub, very roomy and light. Room #302 was designed for one of owners daughters and is also called leopard room. The jungle room is a very fun, exotic room, not for nonadventurous. Lots of fun stuff like when you sit in tub whales swim in ocean. Rooms #213 and #313 are very Mexico in decor with lots of tile, cabanna beds with ocean noises. These rooms are great for couples alone or with small child but not reccomended for families.

Courtyard Deluxe:

New type for us...if you love lobby and public rooms you will love these fun mexican-style rooms. No view but fun decor and affordable. These rooms can be for romance or families. The latest #316 is a big airy room with queen bed and two twins. Some time this summer, we hope to have a flatscreen tv on wall. Great room for familiy vacation and has a small kitchen (only deluxe that does).

Owners Suite:

When we first renovated, the hotel owners made a special room for themselves. They combined all the toys of Courtyard spa with oceanview suites so you have best of both . This very sensual/sexy room perfect for romance; definetly not a kids room. We will be putting in new surround system/dvd player this summer. It's simply the best room on the coast. It is also most popular among repeat guests for aniversaries/special occasions so book early!

All rooms in hotels include ...Microwave and popcorn (always more at front desk), Refrigator and bottled waters, Giant hooded bathrobes (we sell them for just $69.00 in lobby - our most popular item), VCR in each (VCR library complimentary in book library - sad we will be switching to DVD). Large screen TVs 27" or larger plus HBO and 100 channels, largest towels we can find, hair dryers/clock radios and lots of fun stuff.

Public areas...the inn is meant to be a fun beach house so there are lots of areas/getaways...Roof Top/Sundeck pictures are available here. the view is best on coast - It has three living room areas, wet bars, refrigerator, microwaves, TVs/VCRs - yeah on the roof! We also have a Hospitality bar with an ice machine, two gas grills, hammocks...several guests have called it "Avila's Living Room". Great place for family reunion, four couples or family dinner. We get lots requests to rent it for private parties but keep it just for guest use (okay, occasionally the owners will have a party) It's a very special place among repeat customers whether its entertaining or taking an afternoon nap.

Great room...Has both media room and dining table. It's perfect for family gatherings, meetings or just getting the coffee, hot tea or hot chocolate that we serve all day. Usually in mornings you see a group ladies who get away to have a quiet cup of coffee from their husbands' snoring. (we also have extra plates, wine glasses, openers, silverware and dishes for guest use.

Library...lots of great table top books, magazines, owners' fossil collections, folk art and a movie library. Guests love the idea of coming down and getting a movie...we are often asked about checkout procedure...our answer is "Are you going to take it home?" The answer is always no, so why worry about it then?

Lobby...part gift shop/museum. Just fun...We didn't want staff hiding behind a desk like at some chain hotel...Most stuff is for sale unless we can't get it anymore...The way it works, is guests buy stuff, take it home and look at it all year, remember us, then come back. We get to buy, buy, buy - how fun is that? If it doesn't sell, it makes for a cool lobby, biggest sellers - bathrobes, closet knobs, pots and local art.

Local art...We support it whenever we can. You will always see lots around the hotel - we host several shows a year ...Several local artists actually sell quite bit through the hotel. In the summer, we helped start a Sunday art show on the plaza.

Restaurants...We don't own any and since we get yelled at if we recommend one and something doesn't work we are pretty selective and protective of our guests...Okay so here goes: (updated 5/04)
Breakfast...Fat Cats at other pier...50's Diner with large breakfasts ..Pork chops and eggs is best anywhere ..open for lunch/dinner/late.
Lunch...Next door at Custom House ask for patio - inside can be loud singles/couples eat at the bar in main dining room, it's usually faster...Open breakfast/lunch/dinner.
Dinner...Fish - Steamers in Pismo Beah or Cracked Crab (they cook it in bucket and than dump it on the table - kids/large groups love it!...Italian...Guissipe's - (they deliver to hotel complete dinners. Borrow dishes from us and eat on the roof in candle light. Why go out? Awesome!) Rosas - great family place. Steak...McLintocks always fun - or our new favorite: Tahoe Joe's in SLO (they also have a great carry out dinner for family or couple - steak/roast for just $40.00, feeds 4 - Awesome deal
We do not recommend either Ole Port Inn or Sycamore Springs restaurants as we feel both are overpriced and very spotty...eat elsewhere!

All of the above are located in the small community of Avila Beach - most within steps of the Inn at Avila Beach.
