| | | 10. Get a Picnic together from the New Avila Grocery Store. Finally, the new Avila Grocery Store is open. They have all the things you forgot, plus great sandwiches and snacks. Don't forget to check out the wine selection downstairs!
9. Stretch your sea legs: go deep-sea fishing or whale watching. Patriot Sport Fishing boats leave every day from Port San Luis.
8. Get into nature. With the first-morning tee time at Avila Resort and Golf Course, you’ll see deer, birds - plenty of wild things. Tell spouse, “Honey, I wasn’t playing golf! I was on a nature walk.”
7. Make like a local: go to Fat Cats for Breakfast … 24 hours a day. Order Huevos Rancheros or French toast; sit on the patio and gaze out at the sailboats on the bay. The Old Custom House Restaurant just reopened just a block away from the Inn. Serving breakfast lunch and dinner. Also check out the all new Mr Rick's Beach Bar for billards, football or light faire and cocktails. They have dancing on most weekends as well...great fun!
6. Go Fishing, the easy way: shop at any of the three great fish markets at Hartford Pier, then take your catch back to the Inn, to our rooftop sundeck. Barbecue for two, or 20.
5. Be Adventurous. Rent a kayak, wetsuit, boogie board, or sailboat at one of Avila’s piers, and try your surf skills. Or buy bait, poles and fishing gear at the Marine Store, and test your fishing skills. Didn’t catch anything? See Thing No. 6; shop the fish markets alone and no one will ever know.
4. Go get some food on Hartford Pier. The place to go for a fresh seafood followed by a romantic pier walk in the starlight.
3. Indulge your sweet tooth and your inner health fanatic - at the same time. Travel the Backroads of Avila to See Canyon or the Avila Valley Barn. Sample fresh orchard apples, cherries, ollallieberries, and summer produce, along with fresh-baked pies, cobblers, breads, muffins and fresh-pressed cider. Can’t get enough? Head to nearby San Luis Obispo on Thursday nights for Farmer’s Market - one big open-air festival, and the best Farmer’s Market in the state.
2. Relax in an oceanfront room at the Inn at Avila Beach, a little slice of Mexico and the Mediterranean on one of the best beaches in California. Get a massage from the Inn’s in-house masseuse. Get in your suit. Wander across the street to Avila Beach and soak up the scene. Wander back to your room. Repeat as often as necessary.
And the number 1 thing to do in when you stay at the Avila Beach Inn is: Soak in the jacuzzi in your Owner’s Suite room and contemplate the sky and ocean shining just off your deck. Bring along the love of your life to soak in the jacuzzi with you. Ring the desk for extra towels, and disappear for days…
